session 24

in this session, i have completed all the editing and added everything we wanted, i have shown it to mu group and we all happy with it. i then imported the movie to a quicktime which we will then use as our final master film.

session 22 and 23

in these sessions i am carrying on with adding sound effects and sounds to the short film. i had a disusssion with the group and we decided that the end part of the film we found to be boring and dragging on a bit. i decided to create a new peice of music which is more dramatic and makes the rest of the film a lot more dramatic and interesting.

session 20

in the final sessions we have to have everything completed and edited with all the music, sound effects and working titles and credits. kristie had troubles editing the movie so i took over and added all the other elements of the movie. lewis had created the soundtrack but it did not fit in time with the movie so i had to export the song again after modifying it to work with the movie. i also had to add more sound effects to make the movie more effective.

session 18 and 19

in these two session i had to put the finishing touches to the rest of the short film. i managed to create all the shots and actions with great success. the only troubles i had in creating the dance shots was that the characters did not function the way i wanted whilst dancing, as a result to that i managed to make them all dance very well but i could not add any complex dance routines, i just had to choose one dance gesture and put it on loop throughout the shots.
kristie came up with the idea to to have a dancing skeleton whilst the credits rolled which lewis and i found would thought would work very well. so she spent the session creating that as well the credits.

session 16 and 17

in this session i had to transfer the first part of the movie onto kristies laptop to be edited. i started of by going to edit view in moviestorm and i had to add all the clips onto a timeline, i then had to export and render every clip. i also chose what resolution the film is going to be viewed in.
once every clip was rendered, using a hardrive i transfered it onto the final cut program on kristies laptop.

session 13, 14 and 15

in these sessions i am still working on moviestorm creating all the shots, i am a lot more confident now with how the software works and now i can manage everything the group and i wanted to acheive from what i designed on the storyboard.

in the last session i had completed every action and for the first section of the movie, i also finished every shot in the camera work view and my gorup and i think it looks amazing, we are all very proud with what i acheived. we need to now transfer the movie onto another laptop to be editied. i will then start work on the rest of the movie and hopefully get it finished.

session 12

this session is the start of me creating our short movie in moviestorm. we had to get all the sections my group made on their individual laptops and transfer it onto my computer as mine is the main computir where i will make everything. as my gorup was first to finish, we were first to try transfering everything from one laptop ton another. we found it very challening i had my techer help me. i found at the beggining creating the action and shots in moviestorm to be very challeging and i had thoughts that i would not manage what we wanted to acheive as i thought it would be to difficult.
after having disussions with my group and my teacher, i decided to give it another go and then i managed to start creating the film. i started by using very simple and basic actions such as making a charcter move. i would hopefully like to acheive to do more challenging actions and hopefuly get the shots we want.

session 10 and 11

in these two sessions we wanted to acheive starting to create our short film in moviestorm. we started of by completing our treatment. we also decided on what our production roles should be.
my role is to be the director and create everything in moviestorm.
kristies role is to be in charge of editing and designing the titles and credits.
lewis is in charge of making our soundtrack for the film and finding all the sound effects we need to use.

session 8 and 9

in these two sessions, kristie was off absent. i had a meeting with lewis and then i started drwaing our storyboard for our short film 'Midnight hour' in this isession as well i also created the shot lists where i wrote the name of each shot and what happens as well as the camera angles used.

session 6 and 7

In session 6+7 we started to decide what out 9 key frames would be in our moviestorm project kristie and Lewis drew the 9 key frames as i was absent. they drew them on post it notes so then we could stick them onto the story board sheets.

session 4 and 5

In session 4+5 we did a project proposal/treatment where we got given a template to type in a project proposal of our moviestorm project. There are different sections of the project proposal where we decided what our working title will be. Then we would write the project proposal saying what the film is about. I also said what the target audience would be and our roles we each got given in our group. I also mentioned what equipment we would need to create our moviestorm short film. i also carried on working on our characters for our film.

session 2 and 3

In session 2 we created a script. We had a team meeting and have decided to call our Moviestorm movie "Midnight Hour" and we went through the story of our movie and wrote it in the script.
In session 3 we started to create our essay "Compare and analyse two moving image products" we got given a grid where we wrote the two different moving image products and wrote different idea's that we then would put onto our essay. We had to write the purpose, target audience, narrative structure, content & elements, production team & resources, strengths & weaknesses & summary.

session 1

In the first session we had, we had our first meeting as a group and have decided what roles that we would be each be doing. I will be creating al the charcters which will be in the film. kristie is the sound editor creative the music and the sound effects and she is going to be the script/dialogue role, but we have decided that we will not need this role because we do not have any dialogue in our short film. Lewis will be creative the setting. After having a discussion about what role we are going to be we could start creating out short film.

End sequence

Good reviews

The feedback we got given from the class was the story as a whole which the class enjoyed very much. They enjoyed the whole parkour segment of the sequence as it gave a sense of urgency which is what we were looking for in the story. Also the Matrix style 180 degree spin around Lee and myself pointing guns at each other worked very well. The class thought the pace of the editing was good and it ran fluently, also the music enhanced the sequence. The shot where Ben punches the camera as a point of view shot of Lee worked very well. Also the sound effects we used for punches and the 180 degree spin the group thought worked really well.

The areas of improvement

what the group said to improve the sequence was to turn down the music slightly when there is dialogue, as well as turn the volume down when there is wind as it distracted them from the dialogue and also take the sound out from the equipment as you can hear the from the tracking shots the dolly moving.
Also near the end where Ben is introduced into the fight scene, that introduction could have been more creative maybe using different shots and camera angles.
The shot with Lee saying bad language made the group lose the plot of the story and gave it a feeling as though it was not planned or rehearsed.
Another improvement the group said was for the characters to wear costume to make the sequence look more believable, this also made the sequence looks as though it was unplanned. The last improvement the class said was to make the end fight scene longer and by planning it and story boarding it, it makes the fight look much more realistic.

Storyboard and Location changes

During the storyboard process, we came up with many ideas which we thought would work very well in the end sequence. When we began filming we had to change locations around, in the beginning we had 4 location to shoot in including Ely and the Addenbrookes car park. As time progressed we needed to get permission in both locations to film. which we would not manage to get. In the end we filmed the main part of the sequence in the college car park which our group got permission for. We also decided to film the whole parkour segment in the college as well as it would involve going to Ely and filming which we couldn't do.
Also as we were filming we decided to change a lot of shots that were not on the storyboard as they would work better for the location we were filming in. We decided to take out the other gang members which would involve asking other people, we didn't think that would be good as we didn't want to rely on them being in the place when we wanted them to. Also we have changed many of the shot types and we cut back quiet a few shots from the parkour segment.

Session 17 - 18

Friday - 21st
In these last two sessions we need to complete the last of our end sequence. we are working with Ben to try and get the sound finished, we are also adding in all of the sound effects. Also we have checked through our folders to see if there is any sheet work we need to do. Me and Lee decided watching the end sequence back, we should change the first song of sequence. During lunch i found a beat that i thought worked well so i changed it. It also flows into the next song in the sequence fluently.

Session 15 - 16

Thursday - 20th
In these sessions we carried on searching for punch sound effects to add to the end sequence. Ben bought in his microphone so we tried to add our own sound effects with our own voices. We also carried on making music for the end sequence.

Wednesday, 19 January 2011

Session 13 - 14

Wednesday - 19th
In this session i had completed editing the actual film footage we shot throughout the past week. I transfered the end sequence to Ben's mac where he would add the music he had been creating for the sequence. In this session i also filled out the shot list where i wrote down what shots we used and the shot types in each location. We also found sound effects to use at various stages throughout the sequence. We had to find sound effects for the shot where me and Lee are pointing guns at each-other and there is a 180 degree tracking shot around us.

Session 12

Tuesday - 18th
In this session, we were all doing our separate jobs, Lee uploaded all of todays still images, Ben carried on composing the music for our end sequence, and i had to upload the shots and edit them into our final sequence, we showed the finished sequence to Steve and he suggested we add another shot to give the end sequence more of an understanding of what happens. We had to film a shot of the undercover cop sending a text to say he had done the job successfully.

Session 11

Tuesday - 18th
In this session, the weather was much better so we went out and filmed the last few shots in location 3 of Ben and Lee having the final fight. After that, we had completed the all the filming and now i had to edit it all. We had changed almost all of the last sequence in the storyboard by using different shots that we all thought would work better when we were in location.

Session 10

Monday -  17th
Due to the bad weather, we have cancelled the filming today due to health and safety risks. We would be filming in location 2 but the risks we might of faced when filming in the wet would be slipping and injuring ourselves, also the wet weather could damage the filming equipment.
In this session we carried on film our music for the sequence, i had a look to find a punching sound effect to add for when i get punched in the film.

Session 9

In the last session i uploaded all the shots and repeated the stages of putting them on the mac, exporting them to quickime and transfering them to the iMac. I produced a rough cut and showed it to my group and then started to edit the sequence together. The problems i faced was uploading the shots and naming what shots they were, as well as transfering them onto the iMacs.

Session 8

Friday - 14th
In this session we hired the Video camera, the still camera, the tripod and the wheelchair dolly to film in location 3. We filmed the parkour shots in college grounds as we could not film in our original location, then we took the dolly out and filmed the long tracking shots outside the college.

Saturday, 15 January 2011

Session 6 and 7

Thursday - 13th
In these two sessions we had booked the video camera, the still camera, the tripod and the dolly to film in location 2. We had to change various locations around as we now only had 3 locations to film not 5, this location was the car park at the front of the college. Our prop guns also did not arrive which meant delaying the filming a lesson, in the end we had to borrow other prop guns from other groups. Also one of my group members did not show for the first session also delaying the filming. I also had to send the email to the college site staff for permission to film on the college ground. In the last session we managed to get the sequence where the two gang ringleaders met up and exchanged the money and diamond filmed. I put all the shots onto the mac and i had to transfer all the clips onto the the iMac for editing.

Session 5

wednesday - 12th
The group and i also had a big idea change where we got told we needed to have permission to film in the main original location, which we couldnt get. We decided to film on college gorunds in the carpark. I had to Email the college site staff and get their permission to film.

Session 3

Tuesday - 11th
In the third session we carried on filming our reshoot and then i uploaded the shots. For our editing we were given the big imacs to edit, this was good as my whole group could also look at the sreen and give me pointers.

Session 4

wednesday - 12th
In this session we reviewed the shots we filmed in location 1 yesterday. I wasnt to happy with the shots we filmed so we did a reshoot. We dicided in the end to film on the college cameras as they have a better movie quality and it would be much easier to upload.

Session 2

Tuesday - 11th
In this session the group and i are going to try and film the first part of our end sequence, the phonecall in location 1. I had to wear a jacket to fit in with the genre and we used the prop diamond. The equipment we used were the video camera, the still camera and the tripod. For filming these shots we decided to use Ben's video camera which meant we had to do a camera test to see if the shots can be transferred to our editing programs. I uploaded the shots we filmed to see if we had to reshoot any. We also hoped for the prop guns to arrived but they didnt.

camera testing

Session 1

Monday - 10th
in this session the group and i decided to continiue planning our shcedule for the the next two weeks. Also we decided on what roles each person in our group should have, i got editor which i am very pleased about as i will enjoy putting all the shots together and actually making the film. We have also started to think about the music that should be in the end sequence.
I also bought in the fake diamond i brought, to use in our end sequence.

HEALTH AND SAFETY RISKS IN LOCATION

Our main location is the car park at the front of the college. The health and safety precautions we have to think about on set would be the cars parked in the car park, also cars driving into the college. Another location where there is a health and safety hazard is where Ben will film his parkour segment. The hazards we would have to look out for when filming the parkour segment would be for Ben to stay safe whilst jumping around location.

The exhibition is the second part of the series of which part one finished a couple of weeks ago and claims to be a ‘museum-scale survey of emergent British contemporary art’.

All the artifacts i chose to put in my contacts sheet i found to be the most interesting. I thought these particular artifacts worked very well in the British Art Now exhibition. My favorite pictures on the contacts sheet is a piece of art made by Tessa Farmer called 'Swarm'. Also the other pieces of artwork i found interesting were three pieces painted by and artist called Jonathan Wateridge called 'Group series no. 2 space program', ' Group series no. 1 Sandinista' and 'Jungle scene with plane wreck'.

3 DRAFT POSTER ANALYSIS

The ideas i wanted to achieve in designing my three draft posters is to use a pinnacle and iconic images from the film which i could use in my posters, i think this would appeal more to the audience as it will give them an inside to what happens it certain parts of the film. the middle poster the teaser poster i just wanted to keep simple so i decided to add the main elements to what are in the film. in the last poster i used the initials of the film, i think this would also make a good logo for the film. i wanted to use dark colors in the poster to represent the film being a dark thriller. i have used a lot of red in the posters to show the film will contain violence. In the first poster i wanted to make the 'guns' in a big, bold and metallic font, i think this gives the poster a more of an urban feeling and showing the audience where the film will be set.

AdULTHOOD Film Poster

The Adulthood poster mainly consists of the main group of characters which are based on the film. The main group of characters looking as though they are on top of a building looking at the camera, the look of the characters faces and their posture may make the audience scared and threatened, also making look like they are dominating everything else.
The main design of the film poster is the use of dark colors to give the audience a dark imagining to the film. Also the poster shows a landscape background of London which tells the location of the films setting. There is also a weapon lying on the floor, this tells that there will be violence in the film.
The main colors for the people in the poster are dark, the background color of the buildings are dark, this could tell us that the locations are not very pleasant.
The title 'AdULTHOOD' gives me an image of this film being a next chapter from 'Kidulthood' as as the film progresses from the group of characters changing from teenagers into adults. Also what i also think about the title is that what happens in the film is just a phase that the characters go through that will pass.

DISTRICT 13: ULTIMATUM Film Poster

In this movie poster, the people starring in the movie are jumping through mid air in front of a massive explosion, this image shows us that there is going to be lots of action in the film. The way they are represented in the poster is by a lot of action and parkour.
The design of the poster shows a backdrop of paris and in the foreground a big explosion from a building with the stars jumping from from one building to the other, this could be a pinnacle shot from the film so it creates a more of a dramatic effect for the audience.
The main color in the poster is the blue skyline, which takes up a good part of the poster. Then getting darker till it is black at the bottom.
The title's lay out is in a kind of shortened and abbreviated, it almost looks as though it could be a name for a gang, which also could give us a insight to what the film is about. Also the title takes up a large portion of the bottom part of the poster, the reason why i think they have made the title the biggest part of the poster is to make the audience see that first and it is very clear and easy to read. i think the title and font reflects on the type of film as it has a kind of concrete and urban background.

Snatch Film Poster

The snatch film poster has a very simple structure only consisting of the main characters who are in the film, and the title and the production credits. The stars are presented as eightys gangsters, the way this is presented is by their appearance. Brad Pitt is the leading man as he is the well known actor and he is the biggest in terms of film, then it is almost as though the audiences eyeline takes them to the next biggest actor who is vinnie jones, then leads on to the back where the characters Tommy and Turkish remain.
The background colour of the poster is white and plain. The reason i think why there is a plain background is to emphasise the characters which have a kind of red color, this could represent blood and give the audience an image of the film being violent.
The title 'Snatch' gives the audience the impression that the film sounds like a game as the diamond keeps getting taken and snatched from different gangs as they want it. The title is also cer easy and clear to read which may also attract more of an audience.

STORYBOARD ANALYSIS

In the storyboard, the scene starts with the gang leader that has stolen the diamond on the phone planning to meet up the other gang member where he is trying to get his diamond back. The two gangs meet up in a car park and fight it out to get the diamond back.

Meanwhile an undercover cop has been told that there is a stolen diamond and he has to go to the car park where the gangsters are fighting to retrieve it. He free runs from his location to the car park which includes parkour. By this time the gang leader who had stolen the diamond had managed to knock out the other ring leader, this is when the undercover cop comes in to the scene and then there is a chase scene with the cop and and the ring leader with the diamond. There is a fight between the cop and the ring leader to get the diamond, the undercover police man gets the diamond and then runs out of shot.

Then the last shot is of the two gangs lying dead on the floor.

ACTION-THRILLER END SEQUENCE MOOD BOARD

what ideas i think have changed looking at my mood board would be the overall look of the gangsters. before the group and i decided on the gangsters dressed in a shirt and trousers but i think we should enhance it further to make the gangsters look more of a stereotypical gangster look. also what else we decided on is to film the sequence in daylight in a public area.

SPECIAL EFFECTS TERMS; SQUIBS

A squib is a miniature explosive device used in special effects. They resemble tiny sticks of dynamite, both in appearance and construction, although with considerably less explosive power. Squibs can be used for generating mechanical force, or to provide pyeotechnic effects for film productions. Squibs can be used for shattering or propelling a variety of materials.

SPECIAL EFFECTS TERMS; PROSTHETICS

Prosthetics Artists work on feature films and in television on commercials, pop promos, corporate productions, light entertainment programmes, documentary dramas, etc. Prosthetics are appliances made of rubber, plastic, gelatine, silicone, or any other material that can be affixed to an Actor's face or body, in order to change their shape and/or appearance.

A film which uses lots of film prosthetics is Terminator

SPEACIAL EFFECTS TERMS; CGI

CGI stands for computer generated images, CGI is used for visual effects because computer generated effects are more controllable than other more physically based processes. it is used to make computer-generated imagery for movies, etc.
A film production that uses a lot of computer generated images is Pirates of the Carribean

SPECIAL EFFECTS TERMS; BULLET TIME

Bullet time is a special and visual effect that refers to slow motion photography used in films. It is characterized both by its extreme transformation of time, such as flying bullets and space by way of the ability of the camera angle the audience's point of view to move around the scene at a normal speed while events are slowed. The bullet time effect was originally achieved photographically by a set of still cameras surrounding the subject. These arrays are usually triggered at once or sequentially. Singular frames taken from each of the still cameras are then arranged and displayed consecutively to produce an orbiting viewpoint of an action frozen in time or as hyper slow motion.

An example of bullet time in a film production is The Matrix.

GARAGEBAND DEMO

When thinking up a music track on Garageband, i wanted to use some of my favourite music genres in the one track. i wanted to start off with a simple riff and then add instruments to give the track a good beat and rhythm. the genres i used in my track were techno/electric, rock and pop.

Tuesday, 9 November 2010

SPECIAL EFFECTS TERMS; ANIMATRONICS

Animatronics is the use of electronics and robotics in mechanised puppets to simulate life. For film productions, animatronics are used to perform action involving creatures that do not exist. Animatronics today is computor controlled and manual radio devises. Animatronics are mainly used in movie making, but also in theme parks and other forms of entertainment. Its main advantages to CGI and stop motion is that it is not a simulation of reality, but rather physical objects moving in real time in front of the camera. The technology behind animatronics has become more advanced and sophisticated over the years, making the puppets even more realistic and lifelike.

An example of animatronics in a film production wouls be Jurassic park.

BOMB sequence

section 1
the task was to film the final section from our bomb sequence, in the task an operator spoke to an telling him that a bomb has been located and for the agent to find and defuse it. Meanwhile the good operate gets killed and the original character 2 takes his place and on purpose tells the agent the wrong wire to cut making the college blow up. We had to shoot the task in three different sections, the phone call, the meeting then the final bomb sequence which we edited together at the end in final cut. Then we had to use green screen effects to blow up the school.

Section 2
in the filming process, we filmed 21 shots which we did not film in narrative order. I found confusing filming the outdoor shots first then filming the first shots in the narrative sequence last. The main contribution i made was being the first operator where i acted in 2 shots, i filmed most of the bomb sequence and i also took still pictures to add to the blog posts. In the editing process we used the clapperboards again to make it easier for us to edit. What i found to be most fun editing this sequence was we able to use effects to blow up the college, we used green screen effects where there was a variety of explosions and sound effects to choose from.

MEETING sequence

section 1
The task was to carry on the task from the phone call, we had to film a sequence of a meeting where character 2 met character 1 in an office (G19) where character 1 would tell character 2 where to place the bomb and hand the bomb over. In the storyboard process, we shot the sequence differently as we filmed them in order as apposed to filming the whole sequence in that location instead on moving on then going back to the previous location.

section 2
In the shooting process, we filmed the sequence in narrative order. The reason why other film productions do not film in order is it takes up much more time traveling from one location to the other. My main contribution to the meeting sequence was being an actor where i played character 1 in the sequence. I also took loads of still pictures during the whole production stages for evidence and to put on our blogs. In the editing process, we used clapperboards again to make it easier for to put the shots in the sequence and edit them. What i have learned from editing the sequence is making it look believable and make it look in real time. Also i have learned to make the shorts short and cut out any unnecessary bits to keep the audience interested.
